What is Aam Panna

Aam Panna is a traditional Indian drink renowned for its cooling properties. It is especially preferred during the scorching summer months. Made from the pulp of green, unripe mangoes, it’s a tangy beverage that perfectly blends sweet, sour, and spicy flavours. This raw mango popsicle recipe is adapted from the Aam Panna Drink.

Ingredients needed to make Raw Mango Popsicles

  • Raw Mango – This recipe uses green, raw mangoes. The mangoes’ sourness makes these popsicles super delicious.
  • Mint Leaves – To add more flavour and colour to the popsicles.
  • Sugar – You can use sugar or jaggery in this recipe. The level of sweetness and colour of the popsicles depends on the type of sugar or jaggery you use.
  • Black salt, cumin powder, pepper powder, and cardamom powder – These are used for flavour and spice. The spices balance the sourness of the raw mangoes and the sweetness of the sugar.

How to make Raw Mango Popsicles

  • Wash, Peel and chop the raw mangoes into medium-sized cubes. Add water to the stovetop pressure cooker and place the mangoes in it. Pressure cook for 3 whistles. You can also cook the mangoes in a saucepan.
  • Add the cooked raw mangoes to your blender. Add mint leaves, sugar/jaggery and spices. Blend.
  • Add 3 cups of water. Stir well. Pour the mixture into popsicle moulds. If you like, insert mint leaves into each mould for a refreshing twist. Freeze them for 6 to 8 hours.
  • Once frozen, run warm water over the outside of the moulds to release the popsicles quickly. Serve and enjoy your homemade green raw mango popsicles!

Can I make these popsicles without a popsicle mould?

Absolutely! You can use small cups or ice cube trays as alternatives. Just cover them with foil and insert sticks for easy handling.

How long do these popsicles last in the freezer?

Properly stored, they can last for up to 2 months, but they’re best enjoyed within the first month for optimal taste and texture.

Can I use ripe mangoes instead of green ones?

While the unique tartness of green mangoes is ideal for this recipe, ripe mangoes can also be used for a sweeter, less tangy version.

Are these popsicles vegan?

Yes, this recipe is naturally vegan. Just ensure any added ingredients like sweeteners or milk substitutes are vegan-friendly if you’re making variations.
