About Banana Nice Cream

The hero of this dish is ripened frozen bananas. When we freeze the bananas and blend them until smooth, we get a creamy smooth consistency. It is very similar to regular ice cream. Perfect for anyone looking for a healthier alternative to store-bought ice cream. Since we use ripened bananas in this Banana Chocolate Nice Cream recipe, they provide natural sweetness to the nice cream. There is no need to add any more sugar.

How to make Banana Nice Cream

To make Banana Nice Cream, we need frozen banana slices. Along with bananas add nut butter, almond milk, cocoa powder and chocolate chips. Add all the ingredients needed to make Banana Nice Cream to a food processor or a high-speed blender and blend till it turns smooth and creamy. You can serve it straight out of the blender for a soft texture. For a firmer, ice cream texture, freeze for 2 hours or longer. Then scoop with an ice cream scoop and serve. If you feel it’s too firm, let it thaw for around 15-20 minutes to soften.

Store the remaining nice cream in a freezer-safe container. Whenever you’re ready to eat, take the nice cream out of the freezer and let it sit on the counter for 15-20minutes, scoop and serve.

How to Freeze Bananas

To get the creamy consistency of nice cream, you need to freeze the bananas. First peel the bananas and slice them into small pieces. Next, place the banana slices on a lined baking sheet and freeze for around 3 hours. After 3 hours, remove the banana slices from the baking sheet and add them to a freezer bag.

Other Flavours

You can omit the cocoa powder, nut butter and add just vanilla extract to the recipe. To get a more fruity flavour, you can add some frozen berries. Since this is Mango Season, you can freeze few mango pieces and add that as well.

Optional Toppings

Unsweetened Shredded Coconut, Chocolate Chips, Nut Butter and Fresh Fruits are few options that can be used as toppings. You can leave out the toppings completely as well.

Ingredients

  • 4 Bananas peeled, sliced & frozen
  • 1 tbsp Peanut Butter optional
  • 2 tbsp Almond Milk Use any milk of your choice
  • 1/4 cup Cocoa Powder
  • 2 tbsp Chocolate Chips

For topping

  • 2-3 tbsp Chocolate Chips

Instructions

  • Add all ingredients needed for Nice Cream in a food processor or High Power Blender. Blend until smooth. Scrape down the sides with a rubber spatula.
  • Enjoy immediately or transfer to a freezer container for later. Once frozen, let the nice cream sit at room temperature for about 15-20 minutes to soften before serving.

Notes

Use fully ripened bananas. The sweetness of the nice cream depends on the sweetness of the bananas. Since mine were fully ripened and sweet enough, I have not added extra sweetener.
