Tomato Mint Chutney | Tomato Pudina Chutney

Tomato mint chutney is a flavorful and tangy condiment that combines the freshness of mint with the richness of tomatoes. Tomato Pudina Chutney is the South Indian name for Tomato Mint Chutney. It is a popular condiment/accompaniment in South Indian cuisine, known for its vibrant flavours and aromatic combination of tomatoes and mint.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 tablespoon Oil
  • 1 teaspoon Urad Dal
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin Seeds
  • 4 Red Chillies
  • 2 medium Tomatoes
  • a handful Mint Leaves
  • as needed Salt

To Temper

  • 1 tablespoon Oil
  • 1 teaspoon Mustard Seeds
  • ½ teaspoon Urad Dal
  • few Curry Leaves

Instructions
 

  • Add little oil to a pan. Once hot, add urad dal, cumin seeds, and red chillies. Saute till well roasted.
  • Add chopped tomatoes. Cook till tomatoes turn soft and mushy.
  • Add a handful of mint leaves. Cook for a few minutes. Let the mixture cool down.
  • Transfer the ingredients to a mixie jar. Add the required amount of salt. Grind well.

To temper

  • Add sesame oil to a pan. Add mustard seeds, urad dal and curry leaves. Once they splutter, add them to the chutney.
  • Serve this delicious pudina thakkali chutney with idli, dosa or kuzhi paniyaram.

Notes

Adjust the number of red chillies to suit your taste.
