Masala Pori | Kaara Pori (Spicy Puffed Rice Recipe)

Masala Pori, known as Kara Pori or spicy puffed rice, is a popular snack in South India. It is made from puffed rice (Pori) mixed with various spices, including chilli powder, turmeric, salt, and other flavourings such as red chillies, fried gram dal peanuts, and curry leaves.

Ingredients
  

  • 4 cups Puffed Rice / Pori
  • 2 tablespoon Oil
  • 6 cloves Garlic
  • 4 Red Chillies
  • Curry Leaves a handful
  • 3 tablespoon Fried Gram Dal / Pottukadalai
  • ¼ cup Peanuts roasted
  • Salt as needed
  • ½ teaspoon Turmeric Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Red chilli powder
  • 1 teaspoon Chaat Masala optional

Instructions
 

  • Heat oil in a kadai. Add finely chopped garlic and saute until it turns olden brown.
  • Add red chillies and mix well. Next, add curry leaves, and fried gram dal. Fry for a minute.
  • Add peanuts and fry for a minute. Keep the flame on low. Add salt, turmeric powder, and red chilli powder and mix well.
  • Add the Pori (puffed rice) and give a good mix. Switch off the flame. Add some chaat masala (optional) and give a quick toss.
  • Let it cool down to room temperature and store in an air tight container.

Notes

Adjust the number of red chillies and chilli powder to suit your spice level. 
Adding chaat masala is optional.
