About the recipe

Ladoo is a popular dessert in India. Coconut Ladoo is a variety of this popular dessert. It uses fresh or dried coconut, condensed milk and other flavours. The addition of rose flavour to these traditional coconut ladoos elevates the taste, flavour and beauty of the ladoos.

No festival or celebration is complete without a big box of sweets. Back in India, festivals, especially Diwali, are typically celebrated with a huge variety of sweets. Coconut ladoo is always a part of those sweet boxes and has been my favourite since childhood. The texture, taste and coconut flavour always tempt me to have an extra ladoo!

When I decided to make these Instant Coconut Ladoos for a celebration a few years back, I tried different flavours and rose flavour is one of those. I fell in love with it instantly, maybe because of my love for rose flavour. There is just something so delicious about rose and coconut together. These ladoos do have a chewy texture and you would be able to bite into the coconut flakes. That’s the best part of eating these Instant Coconut Ladoos.

Ingredients

Desiccated Coconut – Unsweetened, shredded coconut is what is needed for this recipe. In place of desiccated coconut, fresh coconut can be used. Dry roast without changing its colour until it loses all moisture.

Condensed Milk– In this recipe, condensed milk is used instead of regular sugar. The quantity used in this recipe is just enough for us. Adjust according to your taste.

Rose Syrup / Rooh Afza – For the rose flavour, use rose syrup or rooh afza. If you choose to omit it, these would be plain Instant Coconut Ladoos.

Rose Water – Rose water is optional but adds a pleasant flavour to the ladoos.

Pink Food Colour – The bright pink colour is really attractive for kids and hence I have used a small amount of pink gel food colour. This is completely optional too.

Cardamom Powder – Cardamom Powder gives an added flavour to the ladoos.

Ghee – You would need a little bit of ghee on your palms to be able to form the ladoos. Ghee helps with the mixture not sticking to your palms.

How to make Instant Rose Coconut Ladoo

Add desiccated coconut to a bowl. Next, add condensed milk, and rose syrup.

If desired, add pink food colour and rose water as well.

Finally, add cardamom powder. Bring the mixture together using a spoon.

Roll the ladoos in coconut and dried rose petals.

Instant Rose coconut ladoos are ready to enjoy!

Refrigerate the ladoos for up to a week in an airtight container.

Tips & Variations

If your desiccated coconut has large flakes, run it in your dry grinder for a few seconds to make it a bit fine.
